Minimalist Beauty

Have you ever wondered if you can apply minimalist principles to your beauty routine and save yourself time and money?

I’m happy to tell you that minimalist beauty is definitely a thing, and I couldn’t be happier with it these days.

I remember spending hours of my life and plenty of money from my wallet trying to keep up with my friends’ beauty routines in high school and college. I had absolutely no idea what minimalist beauty was then for sure.

But by my 30s, I started to realize what an epic waste of time and money it all was.

There is nothing better than natural, minimalist beauty anyways.

And once I figured out just how many chemicals are in most standard beauty products on the market, I was shocked.

I don’t want to rub lotion on my skin knowing full well it’s loaded with ingredients that are known to cause cancer. Or breathing in those same chemicals by spraying hair spray. Or washing my face. Or lathering my hair.

I think you get my point.

And I certainly don’t want my husband or kids being exposed to them either all the time either. So I knew there had to be a better way.

I decided then and there to embrace the way I look and to stop putting so much energy into trying to look perfect all of the time.

So next, I made a point to find minimalist beauty products I love without all of the hazardous chemicals. And I made them a part of my new much simpler, much more affordable minimalist beauty routine.

You may be thinking that organic and natural products cost more, so how could I possibly be saving money? And you are right, sometimes they do cost slightly more.

It’s crazy to think that we live in a world where it’s cheaper for companies to slowly poison us than to create healthy products.

But when you pare down and only use a few really great products, you’ll be surprised to see that you can in fact save money. And time, so much time.

Trust me, you are beautiful just the way you are. It’s all in our head ladies. We don’t need so much junk on our faces, in our hair, or on our bodies.

Do you know that American women use on average 12 products a day? And that those 12 products have more than 200 chemicals in them alone? And that more than 12,000 chemicals are approved for use in personal care items right now?

And of course, the products we use are in small amounts but what happens when we expose ourselves to these chemicals every day for five, ten, or twenty years?

You’re welcome to find out but I sure don’t want to. And I don’t want my daughter to either.

So if you are ready to pare down and buy safer beauty products intentionally, I am happy to share my minimalist beauty routine with you and my absolute favorite minimalist beauty products that I just can’t live without.

Minimalist Beauty Routine

Here is a great example of a minimalist beauty routine that you can start using today:

  1. Wash
  2. Exfoliate
  3. Moisturize
  4. Sun protection

It’s really as simple as that.

If you follow these four steps, you will look great from head to toe. And if you use safe products while completing them, you won’t have to worry about all of the dangerous chemicals floating around in your body.

Remember, beauty routines don’t have to be a lot of work or be expensive to help you look your best. A minimalist beauty routine with minimalist beauty products works just as well but it saves you time, money, and exposure to toxic chemicals.

  • This post is great and very informative. I suffer from eczema so I try to use more natural products as products with a ton chemicals affects my skin. I try to use 3 skincare products on my skins per day. I have heard of some of these products. Thank you for sharing.

  • Brilliant choices here, I really don’t have a lot of lotions and potions because as you say there is so much rubbish in them, plus you could spend a fortune.

We all need to be a little more clued up about what we are buying these days x

  • Before, I had no idea what minimalist beauty was but this cleared things up for me a lot! I really like simple ingredients in anything especially something that is going to go on or inside my body. I absolutely love Dove products and I currently use the Dove Deep Moisture Body wash and it does wonders for my skin xxx

    • I’m glad to hear that. There is no reason that all of these companies need to add harmful chemicals to their products. It’s great to hear when other people see this and support companies that create safe products for us.

  • I love this post. I recently did one about allergies and how products I use suddenly make me break out into hives. I definitely am not one of the US women who use 12 products. I maybe use 5 or 6 depending on the day. I’ve pretty much given up make up and my skin has never been better. I don’t have anywhere right now to go that would need make up. I wonder if the pandemic has caused people’s skin to get better since our social lives are so much different. Anyway, sorry for rambling. This was a great post. Can’t wait to read more!

    • You make a really great point. Nothing like a pandemic to make us women realize how we don’t need many products in the first place. Thanks for reading.

  • I love this post. I really want to be more minimalist and use sustainable products too. I have so many products in my collection that I’m currently trying to use or gift to someone who would appreciate it as I don’t want to just throw it away for the sake of it. But ultimately I want to be more minimalist with beauty products.

  • These are great tips. I have posted two posts on Minimalism and I am still practicing. 😀 Oh and I love the Burt’s Bees lip balm. It feels amazing.

  • Fantastic post, honestly the best beauty post I’ve read recently. I’ve gone so minimalist I barely buy anything lol. Sine great ideas here and love your descriptions and pics.

  • Great post! I love minimalism and wish I practices it more. I don’t tend to use a lot of products either. Maybe 4/5 a day? Which isn’t too bad. And I try and stick to natural / Vegan / CF skincare without a ton of chemicals. But there’s always something else we can be doing! So thank you for this 🙂
